Stagehand for the Brockville Arts Centre

The City of Brockville is currently accepting applications for part-time Stagehands at the Brockville Arts Centre.

The Stagehand assists in the safe operation of the Arts Centre technical requirements (lighting, sound, etc.) This position is scheduled as needed according to Arts Centre activities. The Stagehand role includes a wide range of tasks and duties such as setup of lighting and sound systems, facility setup for Arts Centre performance requirements, rentals, and special events.

Essential (minimum) requirements:

• A secondary school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of related experience and an appreciation of arts and culture.
• Excellent customer service skills due to the diverse range of clients and the ability to interact with people (including staff, public, performers, rental customers, etc.) in a professional manner.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and shift priorities.
• Available and willing to work a flexible work schedule, including but not limited to weekday evenings, weekend day or evening shifts.
• Team players contribute to a positive work environment.

Assets (preferred) qualifications:

• Ability to set up and operate lighting board, theatrical lighting fixtures and related technical equipment.
• Ability to set up and operate sound board/microphones and related technical equipment.

Essential physical and/or safety requirements:

• Should be comfortable lifting and carrying production equipment up to approximately 25kg.
• Working at heights and fall arrest training and certification is an asset.
• Considerable lifting, carrying, climbing, working in awkward positions, stooping for long periods and using fine motor skills
• Usage of ladders (working from heights)
• Usage of power tools (saws, drills etc.)
• Bending: frequent kneeling, crouching, squatting,
• Walking: frequent balancing; constant walking on level surface
• Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder; constant reaching below shoulder, forward, handling
• Lifting: frequent lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder, at shoulder, above shoulder, overhead, carrying, transferring, pushing at or above shoulder, pushing below shoulder, pulling at or above shoulder, pulling below shoulder, dragging
• Standing: constant standing inside, outside (standing for large portion of setup; sometimes required to stand during event)

As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit medical documentation of physical ability to perform the duties of position, along with a satisfactory criminal record check as approved by the City of Brockville.
