Water Systems Operator (2 Positions)

The Corporation of the City of Brockville invites applications from qualified and interested candidates for a temporary C.U.P.E. 115 (Outside) position in the Water Systems Division of the Engineering and Infrastructure Department. This temporary full time position is for a 40 hour work week on a 6 month contract.

Under the direction of the Supervisor through the Chief Operator, the Temporary Water Systems Operator will carry out numerous duties operating a Class III Treatment, Class III Trunk Distribution and Class II Local Distribution System. Operations and maintenance of these facilities must be performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, the Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act, City of Brockville Drinking Water License and Drinking Water Works Permit.

Applicants must have sound knowledge of hydraulics, pump and motor mechanics, water chemistry, strong mechanical abilities with functional knowledge of Water Treatment and Distribution processes working in a close-knit team environment.

Requirements:

  • A two (2) year post-secondary diploma in an Environmental program (or equivalent) is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of a Class OIT Water Distribution and/or Water Treatment License and successful completion of the Entry Level Drinking Water Course.
  • Demonstrated experience in municipal waterworks operations.
  • Computer literacy using mobile tablet PC, word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Valid “G” Class Driver’s License. Possession of a valid “DZ” would be an asset.
  • Training in WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, First Aid/CPR
  • Functional knowledge of associated regulations such as the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, and Ontario Health and Safety Act

Working Conditions:

  • The incumbent will work an average of 40 hours per week with opportunity for overtime as needed.
  • Applicant must be capable of performing physical requirements of the position that involve heavy pushing, pulling and lifting (e.g. lift objects of 25 kg) on a regular basis; work in uncontrolled environment/conditions, confined spaces, and construction environment (traffic, uneven ground).
