Operations

 

The Operations Department is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the City’s infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, bridges, airport, traffic control devices, street lighting, crossing guards and fleet.  The Operations Department is divided into the following divisions:

  • Transportation and Fleet Services
  • Public Works
  • Parks and Events
  • Arenas and Facilities

Transportation and Fleet Services 

The Transportation Services Division of the Operations Department is responsible for administering the conventional and para transit systems.  The conventional and para transit services operate Monday through Friday 6:45 am to 9:00  pm, and Saturdays,  8:45 am to 6:15 pm.  No service is provided on Sundays or statutory holidays.  The conventional system operates a one hour service utilizing three fully accessible transit buses.  The para transit system is a service designated for disabled passengers and door-to-door service is provided on a scheduled appointment basis.  Access to the para transit service is based on the completion and acceptance of an eligibility form that can be obtained from the Transportation Services Division. Construction of roads, sidewalks and bridges, airport, traffic lights, street lighting and crossing guards also fall under this division.

The Fleet and Support Service Division provides centralized maintenance and monitoring of the City’s fleet of vehicles and operational equipment, including a long range fleet replacement plan.

As well as monitoring, maintaining and servicing the fleet for eleven departments, divisions, boards and commissions and EMS, the Fleet and Support Service Division also provides other services such as driver training, internal and external licensing, monitoring of accidents and vehicle abuse, welding, carpentry, accounting services, dispatch, and inventory control.

Public Works

The Public Works/Parks Division is responsible for the general maintenance of the City's infrastructure of roads, stormwater collection system, The division is based at the GWMC, 251 North Augusta Road. All inquiries to this division should be directed to 613-342-8772 during regular working hours (7 am - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday) and to the City's emergency after hours call number 613-498-1361 during other times.

Parks and Events

Responsible for parkland, greenbelts, athletic fields and islands. The day to day operations of the City's harbour at Tunnel Bay and campgrounds at St. Lawrence Park as well as City of Brockville Islands is carried out by this division.

  • Grass cutting
  • Tree removal, pruning and planting including commemorative tree planting
  • Flower bed maintenance/planting
  • Outdoor rink maintenance/flooding
  • Athletic field maintenance/grooming
  • Harbour maintenance and operation
  • Islands and campgrounds maintenance and operations
  • Cemetery

Arenas and Facilities


The Arenas and Facilities Division is responsible for the management and programming of the City's two arena facilities including the Brockville Memorial Civic Centre and the Centennial Youth Arena.  The Brockville Memorial Civic Centre, constructed in 1981 consists of a 52,000 sq. ft. building comprising an arena with a seating capacity of 1,800 and a 350 seat community hall complete with its own independent kitchen facilities.  The facility is located on Magedoma Blvd. within the Memorial Park recreation complex.  The arena serves as headquarters for the Brockville Braves Junior A Hockey Club and the Brockville Tikis Junior B Hockey Club.  The ice surface is in operation from September until April of each year.  During the summer months the ice pad is used by community groups for such activities as trade fairs, multi-cultural fairs, dog shows, etc.  The community hall, consisting of stage, kitchen and bar facilities can accommodate banquets and receptions as well as other recreational programming.  The Centennial Youth Arena is located on Broadway Avenue in the City's east end.  Major users of the arena include the Brockville Minor Hockey Association and Brockville Figure Skating Club.  Public skating and private rentals to schools, adult groups and individual youth groups are also available. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of city-owned buildings.
