Canada Day 2020 in Brockville

Join the nation in celebrating Canada Day separately but together this July 1st with virtual content, family activities, and some of your favourite annual local events from home. Please celebrate responsibly by continuing to practice physical distancing with anyone outside of your social circle.

Please note that in observance of Canada Day, Brockville Conventional and Para Transit systems are NOT operating on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020. Regular service will resume on July 2nd, 2020.

Timeline of Virtual content for Canada Day 2020:

9:00 am- 12 noon: MS Teddy Bear Picnic goes virtual. Check out the MS Society’s Teddybear Festival on facebook for a magic show, scavenger hunt, kids morning yoga and more online entertainment. Host your own Teddy Bear Picnic in your backyard and send in your photos to ont-leeds@mssociety.ca

9:30 am (approx.): InstaChoir Canada Sings performance launch. Virtual InstaChoir is celebrating our great country of Canada with one of the largest virtual choirs of our National Anthem. Over 300 people submitted their voice to be part of this project, including a few locals from Brockville and Prescott. The virtual performance goes live online on July 1, 2020.

10:00 am: Brockville Road Runners 5K Canada Day Run: Together Individually. Operating a little bit differently this year is the annual 5K Canada Day run/walk - instead of gathering together at one location for the official start, this event will be held throughout the City of Brockville. Simply leave your front door at 10:00 am and turn left! Create your own 5K loop and return back home.
Not a runner? You can still join in by cheering on any runners that go down your street.
Register online at http://www.brockvilleroadrunners.com/ with all funds being donated to the Brockville and Area Food Bank.

11:00 am: Singing of O'Canada by local dignitaries, tourism and city hall staff, alongside some familiar community faces. The video will be posted online on the City of Brockville Facebook page and the Brockville Tourism Facebook page.

1:00 – 2:00 pm: Virtual Canada Day Daytime Show by Heritage Canada. “Canada Day Across the Country” will be hosted by Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord and will include a virtual tour of the celebrations. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/canada-day.html. 8:00 – 10:00 pm: Virtual Canada Day Evening Show “Canada Day Together” featuring Canadian artists. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/canada-day.html. Watch the evening show on CBC or on Canadian Heritage’s digital platforms. Hosts Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord bring an original artistic collaborations from all over the country with stops in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver. The night will conclude with highlights of the best Canada Day fireworks from previous years. Entertainment will feature: Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, Shane Koyczan, Charlotte Cardin, Loud, Roxane Bruneau, Alan Doyle, The Sheepdogs, Corneille, Alexandra Streliski, Joel Plaskett, Ria Mae, Alex Nevsky, Radio Radio and Damien Robitaille, Haviah Mighty, The Jerry Cans, Natasha Kanape Fontaine, Guillaume Cote - The National Ballet of Canada, Vanesa Garcia-Ribala Montoya - Les Grand Ballet Canadiens, Alanna McAdie – Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Click here for more information on how to watch the show.

10:00 pm: Virtual fireworks show in the evening, part of the official Heritage Canada celebrations, and presented by Tim Hortons - a web app will let you enjoy a new and memorable experience using augmented reality. Point your smart phone or tablet to the night sky and a 3 minutes show displaying 3D fireworks will begin. Click here for more information on how to access the virtual fireworks show.

Restaurants and Patios:

Support your favourite local restaurant by enjoying some food or drinks on a patio on Canada Day. Don’t forget to book early as space is limited due to social distancing requirements.

Canada Rocks!

Help the tourism office celebrate by painting a Canada-themed rock for their garden in preparation for Canada Day! Drop off your rock and have your photo taken for their social media and have your picture shown on the side of the tourism office.

Photo Contest:

Show us how you’re celebrating with the Brockville Tourism Canada Day photo contest! Share photos of your Canadian outfits, teddy bear backyard picnics, celebrating on patios, cheering on the roadrunners, enjoying time with your family, or however you are choosing to spend the day. You can enter the contest in one of two ways:

  1. Send in your photo to contest@brockvilletourism.com 
  2. Share your photos on your favourite social media account using the hashtag combo #ClearlyBrockville AND #CanadaDay
