Brockville City Council met on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Below are highlights from the meeting.
Council Calls for Action on CN Manitoba Rail Yard Impacts
Council passed a resolution asking CN Rail, Transport Canada, and the Government of Canada to address ongoing concerns from residents near the CN Manitoba Rail Yard, including noise, odours, and emissions. The City is also requesting better communication with the community and exploring long-term solutions.
2023 Audited Financial Statements
Council received the 2023 Auditor’s Report from MNP and approved the City’s audited financial statements, including those for the Downtown Business Improvement Area. Financial statements for the City’s Trust Funds and Brockville Public Library were also received, and surpluses of $681,797 (operating), $774,930 (water), and $463,016 (wastewater) were added to reserves.
Building Permit Secured for Multi-Use Recreation Facility
Council approved $109,663.60 for building permit fees for the proposed Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF). The permit is required under the Ontario Building Code and marks the completion of detailed design work for the project, which is ready to proceed once external funding is confirmed.
Dana Street Acquisition
Council approved the transfer of a five-acre property on Dana Street from the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to the City of Brockville. The City will share an estimated $50,000 clean-up cost (about $25,000) and extend a lease fee waiver in exchange, with plans to protect infrastructure, create green space, and explore future development opportunities.
Festivals & Events Grant Spring Intake
A total of $29,780 has been allocated to 14 applicants through the City’s Festivals and Events Grant, which is supported by Municipal Accommodation Tax. Due to high demand, all eligible applicants received partial funding, with remaining funds to be distributed in the fall intake.
