For many years now, the City of Brockville has been considering its options for replacement of the aging Centennial Youth Arena. Over a decade ago, Council established a “Twin Pad” Committee and proposed to build a new arena in the City’s west end that would have resulted in us having three ice pads in total. In 2021 the decision was made to abandon that concept and add a second ice rink and other amenities to the Brockville Memorial Civic Centre. The Memorial Centre is also at an age where it needs upgrades.
Extensive community and user group consultation has occurred over the years. During the last term of Council, consultants were engaged to create a concept that included all the amenities the community told the City it wanted incorporated in an expanded facility.
We have now received the consultant’s report that provides a concept design and suggests, in a preliminary sense, what such a project would cost. Now is the time to make decisions about where we go from here. The project would involve a combination of infrastructure funding from Federal and Provincial governments, funding from our municipal priority project reserve, debt, and community fundraising.
The information on this page is what has been presented to Council, to make it easy for the community to access all the information. More details will follow in the weeks ahead about how the City would fund and build this project if it is to proceed.
