The City of Brockville retained NPG Planning Solutions Inc. to undertake a Zoning Bylaw Review. Under the Planning Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13), local councils are required to amend their Zoning Bylaw to align with a new or updated Official Plan. Brockville’s updated Official Plan was adopted by Council on July 5, 2022, and was subsequently approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing on August 16, 2024.
The City of Brockville’s current Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw Number 050-2014 was adopted by Council on June 10, 2014. Since the Official Plan has been approved, the Zoning Bylaw needs to be brought into conformity with the approved Official Plan.

What is a Zoning By-law?
A Zoning Bylaw is a legal document outlining the set of regulations that determine how a piece of land can be used and developed. The Zoning Bylaw regulates:
- the use of land and buildings;
- the location and setbacks of buildings and structures;
- the types of buildings permitted;
- lot sizes;
- heights;
- parking requirements; and
- performance standards such as landscaping requirements.
The Zoning Bylaw Review is a collaborative and coordinated process which involved the preparation of a background report, technical briefs, and the updated Zoning Bylaw, associated mapping, as well as the necessary public and stakeholder engagement which are both currently in process.
