The Youth Arena project phase 1 is nearing completion. As part of the 2024 Capital Budget, Council approved funds to replace several critical components of the ice making plants at both the Youth Arena and Memorial Center. The objective of the projects was to ensure reliable operations of both facilities ice making capabilities in lieu of construction of the anticipated Multi-Use Recreational Facility.
Phase 1 of the Youth Arena project was the replacement of the ice plant condenser which had been identified as risk of failure due to its age. The old unit had been removed and the new unit installed. With the new condenser in place, staff are planning to build ice at the Youth Arena this week. Building ice at the Youth Arena is annually scheduled to being the day following Labour Day. Ice at the Memorial Center was installed in early August.
Staff are looking forward to another great season for City ice user groups!
