Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) – Outdoor Field Components
Project Overview
The City of Brockville is moving forward with the construction of two new baseball/softball diamonds and eight new pickleball courts at Memorial Park as part of the larger Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) project.
The two new ball diamonds will be designed to support both baseball and softball, with clay infields, 300-foot outfield fencing, and sports lighting.
All eight pickleball courts will be constructed in fall 2026, including asphalt surfaces, court painting and nets. New shade structures will also be installed between each group of four courts. Four courts will initially have fencing and lighting. Staff will seek City Council approval during the 2027 budget process for funding to add fencing and lighting to the remaining four courts.
Construction will be completed in stages to help maintain access to existing sports fields and minimize disruptions to regular league play.
The new north ball diamond is planned to be ready for regular league play in spring 2027, while the new south ball diamond is planned for completion in spring 2028.
Future Recreation Layout
The outdoor recreation improvements include two new ball diamonds and eight new pickleball courts. Existing fields will also be relocated or maintained as the project moves forward.
New North Ball Diamond
Location: Current M5 rugby/soccer field
- A new ball diamond will be constructed on the current M5 rugby/soccer field.
- The diamond will include a clay infield, 300-foot outfield fencing and sports lighting to support both baseball and softball.
- Construction will begin in fall 2026, after scheduled league play has finished.
- The new diamond is planned to be ready for regular league play in spring 2027.
- Rugby and soccer currently played on M5 will move to the M1 field near Laurier Boulevard.
New South Ball Diamond
Location: Existing green space directly east of Kinsmen #1
- A second new ball diamond will be constructed in the existing green space directly east of Kinsmen #1.
- The diamond will include a clay infield and 300-foot outfield fencing to support both baseball and softball.
- Construction will begin in fall 2026, with completion planned for spring 2028. This site requires additional work to level the field, improve drainage and establish the grass before it can be used for regular league play.
- Staff will seek City Council approval during the 2027 budget process for funding to complete fencing and lighting for the south ball diamond.
New Pickleball Courts
Location: Current Kinsmen #1 ball diamond
- Eight new pickleball courts will be constructed on the current Kinsmen #1 ball diamond beginning in fall 2026.
- All eight courts will include asphalt surfaces, court painting and nets.
- New shade structures will be installed between each group of four courts.
- Four courts will initially have fencing and lighting.
- Staff will seek City Council approval during the 2027 budget process for funding to add fencing and lighting to the remaining four courts.
Existing Kinsmen #2 Ball Diamond
- Kinsmen #2 will remain in its current location and continue to be available for regular play.
- The City hopes to upgrade this diamond in the future with similar features to the new ball diamonds. These improvements are not part of the current project.
Goldie Christopher Diamond
- Goldie Christopher Diamond will remain in its current location and continue to be available for regular play.
- The diamond is expected to remain in place until the future expansion of the Memorial Centre. There is currently no confirmed timeline for this phase of the MURF project.
Maintaining Access During Construction
Construction is being carefully scheduled to help keep sports fields available throughout the project and minimize disruptions to regular league play.
Work on the M5 rugby/soccer field will begin after scheduled league play has finished. As construction moves forward, the City will coordinate changes to existing fields with user groups to help maintain access to recreation facilities.
Project Objective
The outdoor field improvements are one component of the City’s larger Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) project at Memorial Park.
The project will:
- Build two new ball diamonds designed to support baseball and softball.
- Build eight new pickleball courts.
- Complete the work in stages to help maintain access to existing sports fields and minimize disruptions to regular league play.
- Prepare the outdoor recreation area for future phases of the MURF project.
The outdoor field projects were included in the City’s 2026 Capital Budget and use the detailed designs developed through the larger MURF project.
The projects are being managed by City Operations staff and divided into separate construction components, including site work, lighting and electrical work, fencing and ball diamond infield clay.
