Geographic Information System (G.I.S.)
A geographic information system is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on earth’s surface. By relating seemingly unrelated data, Geographic Information System can help individuals and organizations better understand spatial patterns and relationships.
The Geographic Information System Division is responsible for the data management of mapped assets and related information. The City Geographic Information System maintains an enterprise spatial database which includes asset infrastructure, planning, transportation, parks, trails, communications, emergency services, and property information. The main objective of the Geographic Information System Division is to support the daily business of City staff by providing relevant and accessible information. The Geographic Information System division also provides services to the public through a variety of themed interactive maps and downloadable PDF’s.
