National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30th

    Posted: Monday September 23, 2024

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (NDTR), also known as Orange Shirt Day, will be honoured at Hardy Park on Monday, September 30th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

All are welcome to join as we reflect on the legacy of residential schools, the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the 94 calls to action that they left us.

Dedicated sponsors, volunteers and Brockville Public Library staff have developed successful NDTR events in Brockville since the inception of the statutory holiday in 2021, even in the face of 2021’s Covid restrictions. Despite these challenges, the community received the event with tremendous support. Each year, the Brockville NDTR Committee, spearheaded this year by Siggy Leslie-Casselman in her role at the Brockville Public Library, brings educational and culturally relevant presenters to the Brockville community for this event, free of charge.

This year, the Brockville Public Library has amazing presenters, who will share their knowledge and traditions. There will be representation from the Algonquin and Mohawk First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Mi’gmaq communities. True North Aid is providing an Orange Walk along the Hardy Park waterfront. A traditional Indigenous feast will be provided for all.

Learning the truth about the inception and development of Canada is the responsibility of every citizen. As stated by Murray Sinclair when presenting the final Truth & Reconciliation report to the Government of Canada, “the TRC has described for you a mountain. We have shown you the way to the top. We call upon you to do the climbing.”

    Registration is not required.
