Dana St. Property Acquisition
Project Overview
The City of Brockville acquired a five-acre vacant property on Dana Street from the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to protect existing municipal servicing infrastructure, and maintain the current community greenspace area.
Following the acquisition, City staff assessed the site and identified a significant number of dead ash trees and overgrown vegetation that posed safety concerns. To address these risks and improve the condition of the property, the City engaged a contractor to remove dead trees and clear overgrown brush while retaining healthy trees where possible. The work is intended to create a safer, more accessible, and more usable green space for the community.
Following the clearing work, City staff will undertake ongoing maintenance activities to limit regrowth, with plans to restore the site through grading, topsoil placement, and grass establishment over the coming year.
Project Objectives
- Protect existing municipal infrastructure located on the property.
- Improve public safety through the removal of dead and hazardous trees.
- Preserve healthy trees and improve the overall condition of the site.
- Maintain and enhance the property as a community greenspace.
- Restore the property through ongoing maintenance and site improvements.
