Okay, so we might be lacking a few of your “must haves”: we don’t have rock climbing, downhill skiing, a large stadium, or a Farm Boy, but you can get to all of those things within an hour’s drive, and we think we have everything else you could need right here. You can trade in having a long daily commute for the occasional trip to Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal, or Toronto, and we think the trade off is worth it. But… if you love being in an urban centre and hate the outdoors, we are probably not the city for you. That’s okay! If absolutely everyone loved it here, we’d be a lot bigger, and we wouldn’t be the same. We are a small city with a community focus, and that’s important to us. If you want to get away from it all for a bit, why not plan a trip to Brockville and see what we are all about?
While Brockville might not be well known for having long, white sandy beaches, we do have a lovely beach in St. Lawrence Park that is free and open to the public. Nearby playstructures, shady trees, picnic areas, canteen, kayak rentals, and campgrounds make this a great choice for the summer, especially if you have kids.
An even more popular choice by our locals, is jumping straight into the river from a drop of over 4 feet in Centeen Park (a stairway entry is also available).
Brockville is located along a beautiful stretch of the St. Lawrence River with plenty of public access to the waterfront as well as nearby hiking, cycling, and paddling trails and routes.

Brockville boasts a number of restaurants and pubs with outdoor patios. Our downtown area has extra-wide sidewalks which allows for seasonal patios to pop up and host you during the summer season. Others have permanent, shady garden patios that they open as soon as the weather permits. Many of your favourite chain restaurants can be found in our north end, and most have outdoor patios in the summer that you can enjoy.
Brockville has a large number of golf courses to choose from within a 10 minute drive. From the Brockville Country Club at our western edge, to nearby Tincap and Prescott, there are courses to choose from at every skill level.
Driving ranges, mini putt, and golf lessons are also available, as is an indoor golf simulator so you can keep your skills up all year long.
Brockville's location on the St. Lawrence River is home to a rowing club, yacht club, municipal, and private marinas, so it's safe to say that we like to get out on the water as much as possible.
Did you know that Brockville is the only municipality that owns islands in the 1000 Islands? This makes us truly the "City of the 1000 Islands", and our islands are available to the public for boating, picnicking and camping during the summer season.

During the winter, Brockville receives snowfall regularly, which creates a beautiful blanket of snow that is perfect for outdoor activities like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing, and outdoor skating. Nearby trails allow for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, and we have an outdoor, covered rink for skating and hockey that has been built and improved through fundraising activities by members of our community.

However, Brockville does not have large mountains, and we are not quite connected into local snowmobile networks. You can access nearby snowmobiling trails a little bit to the north, and we are within 1 hour 30 minutes of many different ski hills (both in Canada and in our neighbouring USA) so any winter activity is within reach, even if we don't have it right here.

Walking to work is a great option, and Brockville boasts a multi-use path that runs through the whole city from the waterfront up to the north end. Walking to work in the winter is not always ideal, as we do get a fair amount of snowfall, so if that is important to you, you will want to choose somewhere to live that is not too far from where you will be working. If you are used to walking, you can easily get from one end of the city to the other in around 40 minutes to give you a bit of a frame of reference.
We also have public transit available for the days that you don't feel like walking to work.
We love a short commute too.

You can get anywhere in the City in under 10 minutes (drive time), so if having a short commute is important to you, we just might be the perfect fit.
While you may be fine with having a longer commute, you don't need to have one here!
We are also situated close to Kingston, Ottawa, Cornwall, and many other smaller municipalities in Leeds and Grenville and Lanark counties. If you are comfortable with a longer commute, you can live here and consider employment in the surrounding region if the right opportunity presents itself.
Brockville is home to the Brockville Braves hockey team (Junior A Hockey Team) and you can enjoy cheering them on during hockey season.

If you are looking for something a bit bigger, you'll likely have to plan a trip into Ottawa (1 hour away), Montreal (2 hours away), or Toronto (3.5 hours away), but as long as that's not something you are trying to do every single day, we think the tradeoff is worth it.
As we keep mentioning, we love the great outdoors. We have plenty of options nearby for when you want to hit the trail, or rent a kayak to get out on the water.
Brockville has lots of restaurants, pubs, steakhouses, and other options, including plenty of authentic cuisine from around the world, vegetarian, and gluten free choices.
From independently owned restaurants you can only find here, to national chains you are more familiar with, you shouldn't have any trouble finding something good to eat.
Brockville has plenty of family friendly activities and attractions. From walking through the Railway Tunnel (have you checked it out? It's free!), to visiting the Aquatarium or Brockville Museum, to playing a round of mini putt, to dropping in at the library.

That's okay though, we understand. If you'd prefer to stay inside, we have plenty of restaurants, shopping, and a fun library where you can spend your time indoors instead.
Enjoy the outdoors without fully going outside by driving down to Blockhouse Island. Park in one of the many parking spaces where you will have a great view of the river and enjoy watching the ships go by.
You might have to go a little bit farther afield to find some rock climbing.
A ziplining and aerial adventure course can be found just 10 minutes to the west of us, and there are some great rock climbing and bouldering gyms in nearby Ottawa, however we don't have any right here in Brockville. While we are located on the Canadian shield, it is rocky here in Brockville, but we aren't on a mountain, so you will have to drive a little bit away to track down some good cliffs to climb. Climbing gyms are available in Ottawa, about an hour away.
You will have to go a little bit farther afield to find some downhill skiing (but not too far).
In both Canada and in our neighbouring USA, you can find a number of ski hills within an hour and a half. The Eastern Townships in Quebec, as well as Tremblant and Mont Blanc are also well frequented by skiiers from our region and make for a fun weekend away.
You can certainly find that here! Brockville is situated on the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, a beautiful Unesco site full of natural beauty and different ways to get out and experience nature.
The 1000 Islands region is world famous for having some of the best fresh water scuba diving available. From sunken shipwrecks, underwater sculpture park, shore dive access, and dive charters, Brockville has everything you are looking for when it comes to scuba.

We get it, we don't like a long commute either. This is one of the main things that attracts people to Brockville: turning in your long commute or battling traffic trying to get across a big city for more time back in your life to do what really matters. Brockville is centrally located by the 401 in between Toronto (3.5 hours away) and Montreal (2 hours away), and 1 hour south of Ottawa. This gives you access to large scale events happening in all three of these cities.

Brockville has a Newcomers' Club run by people who moved to Brockville to call this beautiful city home, and they are a great way to get to know other new residents and explore the region with other people with similar interests.
If you are under 40 (or thereabout) the Brockville Young Professionals Network is another great way to connect with others in the area, many of who are fairly new here as well.
While Brockville is generally a bit more laid back, if you are looking for it, you can jump from the seawall into the river, soar through the trees on a zipline, or take a helicopter ride over the 1000 islands (those fly out of neighbouring Gananoque).

We are very fortunate to have a variety of outdoor activities and amenities (and regularly enjoy their proximity). We feel that we have one of the best “back yards” in Canada with so much outdoor beauty available, accessible, and right on our doorstep. We are surrounded by hiking trails and enjoy having the St. Lawrence River along our south side for paddling, boating, and island camping.

Brockville has yoga studios, spin classes, and other fitness options (stand up paddleboard yoga anyone?), along with lots of other ways to enjoy time with family and friends. Sign up for a cooking class or pottery workshop, or just sit by the waterfront and enjoy the beautiful views.
With 4 Tim Hortons locations in Brockville, you are never far from your caffeine fix.
Brockville has two Starbucks locations, one near to each 401 exit, so it's easy to grab your coffee and get on the road if you are headed to a conference or going on a road trip (or just grabbing your morning coffee on the way to work).
Brockville has lots of independently owned and operated coffee shops and tea shops. While most are located in the downtown, it's so fast to get around that even if you are planning to stay in the "north end" of the city (the area of the city north of the 401) you can easily pop downtown for a quick break.
Even if you are not a big fan of tea or coffee, we are sure there is something else that you might prefer. We have lots of restaurants and pubs with other dining options.
While Brockville is a small city, we are technically not big enough to attract a Whole Foods or a Farm Boy. We do have a very full farmers' market on Saturday mornings from May to October, and products from local farms can be found at a number of retail locations around the city.

We always recommend checking out the Brockville Farmers' Market during the summer months (May to October on Saturdays) as a great place to get not only your produce, but baked goods, artisan items, and iced coffee, all while enjoying the great vibe of the market.
If you won't have the space to grow your own veggies, there are plots at a community garden (volunteer led project) at Gord Watts Municipal Centre.
