The City of Brockville is excited to be taking an important and much needed step forward in the Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) project.

The current roof at the Memorial Centre has reached the end of its service life. Over time, it has developed leaks and safety concerns that simply can’t be ignored. Before we can move into the next phase of the MURF project, this piece needs to be completed. It’s a foundational step, and an important one.
Thanks to $978,000 in funding awarded through the Ministry of Sport in 2025, we’re able to move ahead with this work in a thoughtful and phased approach that minimizes disruption wherever possible.
Construction will begin in mid-February. During the early stages, work will focus on removing sections of the flat roof while keeping the facility operational. Beginning March 16, we’ll enter the critical phase of steel roof removal. For the safety of the public and construction crews, the Memorial Centre will close during this portion of the project.
While the ice surface and community hall will be temporarily unavailable, the commercial space in the lobby will remain open. Ball fields will continue to be accessible throughout the summer months, and we ask that visitors use the east side of the building when accessing those amenities. Barricades will be in place around the work area to ensure everyone’s safety.
Our team has worked closely with contractors to schedule this work in a way that limits long-term service interruptions and positions us to reopen as soon as possible. Construction is expected to continue through the summer, with an anticipated completion date in August. This timeline will allow time to prepare the ice surface for the upcoming winter season.
We know closures are never ideal. These facilities mean a great deal to our community, and to us. This renovation is a critical investment in the long-term future of recreation in Brockville and a key milestone in bringing the MURF vision to life.
