City Launches $5 Million Your Space to Play Fundraising Campaign

    Posted: Thursday November 05, 2026

Brockville, ON – November 4, 2026 – The City of Brockville officially launched its Your Space to Play community fundraising campaign this evening at the Memorial Centre, inviting residents, businesses and community organizations to help shape the future of recreation in Brockville.

The campaign aims to raise $5 million in community support toward the City’s Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF) project, a major investment in modern, accessible recreation spaces that will serve residents for generations to come.

Mayor Matthew Wren, Mayor-Elect Cameron Wales, Member of Parliament Michael Barrett, campaign co-chair Shelley Bacon and project stakeholders gathered to celebrate the launch and recognize the progress already underway.

“This project represents years of planning, collaboration and a shared commitment to Brockville’s future,” said Mayor Matthew Wren. “With elements of the project already under construction, we’re seeing this vision become a reality. The Your Space to Play campaign is an opportunity for our community to come together and help create recreation spaces that will benefit residents for decades to come.”

The MURF project includes the construction of a new arena addition connected to the existing Memorial Centre, renovations to the current facility and improvements to outdoor recreation amenities at Memorial Park.

Significant progress has already been made, including the completion of the Memorial Centre roof replacement, supported in part by $978,000 in provincial funding through the Ministry of Sport. Construction is also progressing on the first of two new ball diamonds at Memorial Park, with the first expected to be ready for league play in spring 2027. Plans for new pickleball courts are also moving forward.

The campaign launch also celebrated two contributions toward the project, including $68,560 from the local pickleball group and $75,000 from the Brockville and Area Community Foundation through its Strategic Partnership Grant.

“Your Space to Play is about more than buildings and recreation facilities. It’s about creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to connect, participate and belong,” said Shelley Bacon, campaign co-chair. “Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to creating spaces our community can enjoy for generations.”

As part of the public launch, the City also unveiled the campaign website and online donation portal, providing information about the project, fundraising opportunities and ways for individuals, businesses and organizations to contribute.

Community members can support the campaign through donations, sponsorships and naming opportunities.
